Title:ARTEMIS II: A Second Generation Catalog of LASCO Coronal Mass Ejections

Abstract:I will present the ARTEMIS-II catalog of coronal mass ejections (CMEs) detected on high-resolution synoptic maps constructed from the SOHO/LASCO-C2 images of the K-corona since January 1996. The parameters estimated for each detected CME are the date and time of appearance, the position angle, the angular width and, when detected at several solar distances, the global and median velocities (80% of the whole set), the mass and kinetic energy. Individual comparisons of velocity determination of 23 CMEs for which a full three-dimensional kinematical solution has been published indicate that ARTEMIS-II performs extremely well except at the largest velocities, an intrinsic limitation of our method. Individual comparisons of mass determination of seven CMEs for which a robust solution has been obtained from stereographic observations demonstrate the quality of the ARTEMIS-II results. A comparison with the other catalogs will be presented as well as the statistical properties of CMEs over almost a solar cycle and a half. Particular attention will be given to the last unusual solar minimum.
